PLAY YOUR PART, STAND UP FOR ART
This is the post we didn’t want to write but as President of the Sioux Empire Community Theatre and the Producing Artistic Director, we have a fiduciary responsibility to be honest and level with you.
We need your immediate financial support if we are going to be able to continue as the premiere community theater in the region.
The reality is, community theatre can no longer survive on ticket sales alone. The cost of licensing and producing a show cannot be made up in ticket sales and simply raising the cost of a ticket defeats the very purpose of a community-driven theatre program.
In order for the Sioux Empire Community Theatre to continue offering quality and affordable theatre, we must rely on people like you, people who understand and appreciate what it means to the Sioux Empire to have a vibrant and viable community theatre program and the cultural contributions community theatre adds to our region.
It’s hard to believe season 15 is coming to an end. The most ambitious season we have ever tackled is wrapping up with One Man – Two Guvnors, Peter and the Starcatcher and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
On the historic Orpheum stage we have made the impossible possible, brought you the French revolution with Les Miserables, made a nanny fly in Mary Poppins, took you down the yellow brick road of The Wizard of Oz, and introduced you to six merry murderesses in the Cook County jail of Chicago.
We have used the Anne Zabel Studio theatre to introduce you to shows that you may not be familiar with or turned traditional shows on their heads by introducing them in an intimate nature from Avenue Q, to RENT, and this year’s Heather’s.
In the past 15 years we have also seen our stage adventures family friendly theatre continue to grow and touch the lives of many young actors. Our summer musical theatre program has grown and become a recognized leader for regional productions.
The board and staff are still working on Season 16 where we will bring another season of shows that push your imagination, put a smile to your face, and warm your heart — but we need you to make a tax deductible contribution so that we can get back on solid financial ground and commit to a big, bold, blockbuster season of new and classic Broadway-quality showstoppers.
As President of the Board of Directors and Producing Artistic Director, we are working with our fellow board members and staff to make sure we look at every aspect of our current business model and find ways to improve it. We welcome your thoughts and ideas.
We’re confident, with your support, we will continue to provide the people of the Sioux Empire the theatre they have come to expect and the quality they deserve.
